Romance
CBS Radio
Romance was a CBS series that evolved from an early 1940s series, Theater of Romance, which aired at various times through the years. In May 1954, the series returned to the air with a format resembling a softer version of Escape or Suspense, featuring many of the same actors and writers, including those known for Gunsmoke and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. It was a true anthology series, offering a wide range of stories filled with adventure, tension, and romance, but not of the soap opera kind.
This format lasted until 1957, with over 100 episodes surviving. Many scripts were also utilized on Escape or Suspense. The episode featured from the Hehn collection is an AFRS copy of the July 28, 1956 episode titled 'Face of Love,' which is #103 in the AFRS disc numbering for the series. The episode stars Virginia Gregg and was written by Irene Winston, who contributed to various other notable series. It was produced by Antony Ellis, known for his work on Suspense and the late 1950s series Frontier Gentleman.
