Do you ever find yourself loving a song but not really knowing the lyrics? Has a song’s appeal changed once you dug into the lyrics, for better or worse? This week Pastor Chad invites us to consider a popular song from the Bible. We will explore how Mary’s Song (The Magnificat) turns expectations upside down. An unmarried teen and an old woman have both failed to meet the expectations of their community and yet God has called them blessed. In Mary’s poetic response, she continues to sing about how God’s vision is the opposite of the world’s idea of power, influence, and blessing! When we understand the lyrics of The Magnificat we discover hope that is unexpected especially as we try, and often fail, to meet the expectations of the world.
