"She'll insert the knife so delicately that the man won't feel any pain at all. Just a warm gratefulness, an intoxicating sort of happiness. Then she'll start twisting the blade back and forth... back and forth until the poor devil has been tormented beyond endurance. He'll either wrap a nylon stocking around her beautiful white throat, or something worse ... something uglier ..." Here is the story of a sadistic woman, and the warped lives of those who loved... and hated her. Fred Ellers, the Pulitzer Prize winning writer who was corrupted by fame... Joe Fenton, who considered crime a fascinating sort of disease, and police work a scientific game... Ruth Porges, who was caught in the most vicious of all triangles... A brand-new tale of New York City's Nightmare Zone, by one of the greatest craftsmen of suspense, Frank Long. (Summary by Back cover of the paperback edition) (5 hr 12 min)

Reviews

The only good thing is the narrator.

(3 stars)

I'm only giving this audiobook 3 stars because the narrator did an excellent job. This has to be Long's worst work. It is the cheesiest murder mystery detective yarn I had the displeasure of reading in recent decades. How it became a published work is beyond me. Full of contradictions, inaccuracies, long winded out of context explanations in a childish transparent effort to rationalize or lend some kind of logic to this puril attempt at detective mystery that it makes the reader want to drop the story halfway through. I persisted hoping that Long would redeem himself with a decent finish but the unserious mediocrity remained all the way to the last sentence.
