The Gambler is a short novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky about a young tutor in the employment of a formerly wealthy Russian general. The novella reflects Dostoevsky's own addiction to roulette, which was in more ways than one the inspiration for the book: Dostoevsky completed the novella under a strict deadline so he could pay off gambling debts. A short, interesting tale, much less dense than other works by the author. Easy to listen to over the course of a day. The reading would have been good except both readers clearly don't speak French, which is problematic when so much of the dialogue is in French.
loved it

what an incredible book, so much easier to follow than brothers or the idiot or notes from underground, if you recommending Dostoyevsky to a friend, start with this book.

Brilliant read. Was wary to give it a go due to some critical reviews of the narration. Not audio book quality by any means, but I ended up liking the narration. They did a fine job.

Excellent reading, for the most part, congratulations! It is just the French that was really bad, hard to understand (but usually not impossible after some effort, fortunately).

Impulse and self loathing at it's finest. A man without a cause selling thrills he doesn't enjoy once away from the high of roulette. Narrator GREAT!!
Thankyou for reading

Nice sound quality. And I liked the rhythm of the story. It is a quite short story. Astonishing historical and cultural context.

Good book, mediocre reader. If you are reading a book that's 5-10 % French then you should be able to pronounce French.

wonderful book! but had lots of audio drop outs, where it would freeze then go back to chapter 1.
