Great story with an interesting plot and twists. Always enjoy this author's work.Its a shame that many of the current reviews on older science fiction works like these focus on how dated they are. Of course they are dated! But they are amazing if you recognize the authors imagination and insight into what the future could bring.I not only heard the story ...I saw it..I was there.Its a gift the author gave a long time ago and it still is. Thank you H.Beam Piper for writing it and thank you Mark Nelson for reading it as well as you did!

The story was not quite what I was expecting, but still a bit of fun, and the readers brilliant accents brought it to life!

I really enjoyed this story, it's a good tale, it's full of action and a decent coherent plot. It's not got some of the political angle I don't enjoy in some of his work. There's some dated use of language (like the guy who's nickname is Nip because he looks Japanese) but it's generally free from the problematic stuff one may find in other books of this era. Mark Nelson's reading is quite superb

Overall, the story was well written and interesting. At times the author failed to commit fully to the sci-fi setting, and the protagonist was just a bit too perfect and knowledgeable, but the plot was enjoyable. The reader did an excellent job. his voice is very articulate, and he created variations to distinguish characters' dialogue.

Unlike some Piper stories, this one stayed on track instead of too,g off on a bunch of hypothetical science or philosophy. An excellent story of adventure, and intrigue, mixed with some good humor. As always, Mark Nelson did a fantastic job bringing life to the characters and the world.
Whale-hunting on a wild west planet

A fun SciFi romp of monster hunting and revolution on a harsh and remote planet. Most characters are rather one-dimensional and there are no female speaking roles in the whole thing, which is rather disappointing for an H. Beam Piper book.

2nd time around. Great read and story. With a strong nautical theme, adversity and showing the true colours of evil. The path to salvation in this gripping story is satisfyingly achieved in a action packed finale and subsequent wrap-up. Recommended:)

Another fantastic H. Beam Piper novel. He really does the back work, inventing all sorts of technologies and companies and policies to present a well-rounded world. The book is fun and well-paced, definitely worth the read.
