Mary Lennox is a spoiled, middle-class, self-centered child who has been recently orphaned. She is accepted into the quiet and remote country house of an uncle, who has almost completely withdrawn into himself after the death of his wife. Mary gradually becomes drawn into the hidden side of the house: why does she hear the crying of a unseen child? Why is there an overgrown, walled garden, its door long locked? (Summary by Peter) (9 hr 8 min)

WE ARE FAMILY NOW!!!

I have lost count how many books/segments I have enjoyed read to me by Kara "KayRay", but oh this had to have been the best one yet! (Though maybe because it's the one I heard most recently). The Secret Gard is one of those books I had read years ago, but forgot about. The descriptive style of the writing is so incredible that you really feel you are SEEING that which the author describes. But then add Kara's reading and it's just all the more MAGICAL!!! This would be ideal for a road trip with the kids (or alone! Lol,,)!!!

I have now listened to Ms. Shallenburg for the third time reading "The Secret Garden". I have loved this story for years but appreciate it more now that I can no longer work and feel cross when I think of my situation. My, how Mistress Mary has raised my spirits on a cold, MI day.

Loved the book. I listened to it through AudioBooks read by Ashley Jane. I enjoyed her reading much more than the person reading it through LibriVox. Had to end up listening to the end of the book thru LibriVox with the other reader though as Audio Books kept messing up and finally would not finish the end of the book. Ashley Jane had the accent to make the book come to life. Great story!

The Change of a Child's heart.

This is the best dramatic reading I've heard anywhere on LibriVox! For once the men are actually read by men and girls by girls. Kara Shallenberg does a very good job at narrating the story. Francis Hodgson does a very good job at showing how a child's heart can charge it's self and other's.

Amazing Book and A Brilliant Narrator!!!

It is not A BOOK meant for Children alone but for ADULTS as well. If any body has read the SECRET by 'Rhonda Bryne' then I would strongly advocate that this a must read Book....This Book teach us how we can attract things we want in LIFE!!!

What a pleasure it was to me diving deep into the first book I read by my own at age 8-back in 1990. That you for bringing it to life, in such a adorable, intimate way. Much love to all of you! 😊😀 Berlin, 2017

enchanting, Christian outlook, encouraging to lost souls

I'd seen the movie so I knew I'd love the book, but I was delighted to realize the movie had quiet changed the book. Mrs. Medlock wasn't mean and you got to hear what the robin was thinking. Just a wonderful book this will be a favorite till I'm old an grey and reading it to my great grands ( I'm only 24 with a 9m old) :)

awesome!!!!!

I really like this book and I highly recommend it for young readers ages nine and older. I'm ten and love this audio book and the narrator has a great way of doing the accents of the characters in this wonderful story. Some parts could be confused by younger kids but overall this is a wonderful book.
