An Uplifting Read

(5 Sterne)

I particularly enjoy a good long novel that has well developed characters and a plot that keeps one's attention to the very end. This is one of those stories. The description of the book barely does it justice. I felt like was standing right next to Marcus Ordeyne as the years passed by. The reader does a superb job of narration, using many different styles of voices and dialects which considerably adds to the enjoyment of the book. Thank you, Dear Reader and thank you, Librivox for another wonderful offering

Brilliant

(5 Sterne)

I stumbled across this Novel & began to listen, simply because of the LibriVox Volunteer, Simon Evers, whom I've previously lauded as one of the very best. I just couldn't stop listening, as the story captured my imagination, offering humor, a bit of intrigue & relationships that I wanted to know more about.

best ending!

this book was a struggle to get through at times but had enough of an interesting story to keep a modern uneducated american like myself interested. the last few chapters really go along way to explain alot of the earlier poetic writings. that is why i can say i truely enjoyed this book.

The story takes you everywhere

(4 Sterne)

You think this will be a simple story of a man finding a waif of a girl, falling in love, and living happily ever after. It's not that. It's much more complicated and earthy. Superbly read by Simon Evers. However, I cannot give it 5 stars because there are annoying audio skips throughout the recordings. Parts of words are cut off. It must have been some sort of hardware problem - frustrating as a reader to deal with, I am sure, but also frustrating for the end listener. The story is worth listening through the skips, though.

A Beautiful Great Story

(5 Sterne)

I was truly spellbound with this enchanting story, another great romance by Locke and brought to life by Simon Evers. It’s as though one inhabits the scenery, like an unseen bystander who is a witness to this story, one moment amused, another breathless as to what happens next. Thanks again to all the volunteers at LibriVox who make such great works available to the all of us.

Couldn’t stop listening!

An interesting story and character study. I was totally pulling for this guy throughout the story felt it had a satisfying ending. Lots of historical, foreign, and literary references that went over my head, but it didn’t get in the way of my enjoyment.

Another great narration by Simon Evers. Story has interesting insights into life. Some of the plot lines a bit of a stretch, but the narration and life wisdoms make this an engaging experience.

Queer little Story

This will not appeal to every one, however, I thoroughly enjoyed the numerous moral dilemmas Sir Marcus encounters throughout the book. As always, my thanks to the volunteer reader.
