A Study in Scarlet is a detective mystery novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which was first published in 1887. It is the first story to feature the character of Sherlock Holmes, who would later become one of the most famous literary detective characters, with long-lasting interest and appeal. The book's title derives from a speech given by Holmes to his companion Doctor Watson on the nature of his work, in which he describes the story's murder investigation as his "study in scarlet": "There’s the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it." First three chapters best

(3.5 stars)

I enjoyed that the reader changes because my brain seems to pay more attention when the sound changes. However, the first 3 chapters were read so well that the other readers pale in comparison. The woman reading the beginning of Part II annoyed me a bit, she sustains the sound of the last syllables in an odd way. The others were OK.

TriciaG is the worst reader EVER!!!!!

(3 stars)

Most readers do pretty well but the first female reader TriciaG has no business reading aloud for others to hear. She has a monotone voice and this strange emphasis on the last word in a sentence. So annoying! The rest are fine, I'm listening to her now and I can't wait to get past her section. HORRIBLE!

Not a big fan of the reading

(2 stars)

I was not a big fan of the reading at all. There are several readers that change about every two chapters. I enjoyed maybe two readers out of the lot. The last reader was the worst. It was as though she was reading as fast as she could. I hated that. I had to really pay attention to catch all the fine details of Sherlock Holmes breaking down the case. It's a great book but I'd advise you to listen to a different recording.

Great book... Disappointed with the reading of the book.

(3 stars)

I love to listen to a book and feel that the reader(s) is/are the character(s) themselves. That is not possible when listening to a woman reading the part of a man and a man the part of a woman. Other than that, great book.

Many readers

(3 stars)

There are a number of readers on this recording, and most of the (specifically the first) are fairly good. However, one woman, beginning in part two, is so intolerably bad that I couldn't continue listening. Her enunciation of certain arbitrary syllables is bordering on painful.

Great book, love the part about the Mormons

(4 stars)

There were some great readers there was one gentleman toward the end who is a fantastic near raider there is however one really bad narrator who has some kind of Midwest American accent! please, get your accent fixed.

great part one, bad part two.

(2.5 stars)

no problems with part one, however the reader of part two is so awful, she makes a wonderful story unbearable to listen to.

In most parts, the diction and emotions are captured well. Perhaps a consistent voice would be more meaningful to the overall experience.
