The Evil Shepherd
E. Phillips Oppenheim
Lu par Richard Kilmer (1942-2022)

A businessman is found stabbed through the heart, the obvious suspect his partner: Oliver Hilditch. Hilditch seems destined for the gallows, but he is saved by brilliant defense attorney Francis Ledsam. It is a defense to be proud of, but Ledsam’s joy vanishes when Hilditch’s wife informs him that her husband is guilty of crimes far more monstrous than murder. Ledsam finds himself trapped between his love for a beautiful woman and a powerful desire to do the right thing—no matter the cost. (Summary by Richard Kilmer) (8 hr 26 min)

Critiques
One of my favorite readers

Ms. Elizabeth
Finally was able to streamlink this through. I must say I enjoyed listening to it better than reading it. Oppenheim is taking us for a walk on the wild side. Oh my!
ANOTHER HAPPY ENDING

AVID READER
Oppenheim, despite his great ability to construct real suspense in his stories, is basically an incurable romantic. An enjoyable story read well by Richard Kilmer, he of the velvet voice.
Enjoyable mystery well narrated

Kentworth
This was an enjoyable story, very well read with proper emphasis in the right spots. There's nothing like a good old-time mystery story, and this one fits the bill.
pretty good

Tes Carpenter-Camhi
I found the beginning better than the end. The story felt like it was trying to be a mystery but it wasn't really.
A very good story.

Satyaban
E. Phillips Oppenheim consistently writes good mysteries. Also the reading was terrific.

Cindy Barnett
Finely crafted tale of duplicity and murder. Well read by Richard Kilmer. Recommended.

J. Hughes
The premise of the book was intriguing enough, but it seemed a little slow.
style somewhat similar to F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Me
Well read, a good book.
