My Bondage and My Freedom
Frederick Douglass
Lu par Jim Locke

The life of Frederick Douglass, recorded in the pages which follow, is not merely an example of self elevation under the most adverse circumstances; it is, moreover, a noble vindication of the highest aims of the American anti-slavery movement. (Introduction) (11 hr 22 min)

Critiques
My Bondage and My Freedom

Sterling Hawkins
A more in depth autobiography than “The Narrative Life of Fredrick Douglas -a slave” written 10 years prior. The setting and characters are developed throughout. The description of enslavement from this first person account captures the inhumane and treacherous conditions endured by the author and many others under similar conditions. A must read for anyone seeking to develop a better understanding of America’s brutal legacy of disgraceful treatment of African Americans.

Karin Lyle
Compelling, well-written story of the life of a brilliant man.
