(4.8 stars; 7480 reviews)

Pride and Prejudice is the most famous of Jane Austen’s novels, and its opening is one of the most famous lines in English literature - “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Its manuscript was first written between 1796 and 1797, and was initially called First Impressions, but was never published under that title. Following revisions it was published on 28 January 1813 by the same Mr. Egerton of the Military Library, Whitehall, who had brought out Sense and Sensibility. Like both its predecessor and Northanger Abbey, it was written at Steventon Rectory. (Summary from Wikipedia) (10 hr 23 min)

Excellent reading of a delightful book

(5 stars)

I hadn't read this since high school a few decades ago, and while I remembered the basic plot, I'd forgotten how much of a role the art of conversation plays in the book. This was made all the more delightful to listen to with Karen Savage's reading.

eternal love

P&P is one of my all time favorites, and this was my first time with it in English. Karen Savage is one of the best readers I've come across so far. This was a real gem. <3

Wonderful story and wonderful reader

There is no wonder Pride & Prejudice is a time honored classic. it is such a fun story of romance. Karen Savage is one of the best readers I've ever heard.

The Crown Jewel of Librivox

(5 stars)

Dearest Gentle Reader, This recording read by one Ms. Karen Savage is, dare I say, the Crown jewel of Librivox. It is read with such assiduity and felicity., (By-the-by) Ms. Savage also captures the moral turpitude & unconscionable vulgarization of the bon ton of "polite society" who do themselves shame in both subtle & overt haughtiness. Ms. Savage's rendition of this beloved classic does, dear reader, Ms. Austen's masterpiece due delivery and justice (both in equal measure). I shall not waiver in my assertion hence forth: Jane Austen is one of the best authors ever! For those who do not concur: prepare your smelling salts! And thus forget (by your account) this most scandalous prose, the moment you have recovered from your astonishment, as I am certain that some of you may radiate a sullen disapproval by the prose written by my quill, upon this parchment.

Fabulous book and reader

Austen was a master of the English language. I pick up on something new each time I listen to this reading. Thank you Karen Savage for a stellar job.

Why did I wait so long?!

Exhilarating! Now I know why Jane Austen is so beloved. The narrator was also superb.

Classic!

An old school love story! An excellent book in it's regard to social attitudes during the period & really wonderful narration by K Savage.

Great reader!

The reader did an excellent job with making different voices for the characters. A few times I was confused when the dialogue went back and forth between similar voices, but overall well done. As for the book itself....it seems a bit wordy and has an 1800's soap opera vibe at tines, but still an enjoyable love story.
