The Return of Clubfoot

Whilst spending a holiday in a small Central American Republic, Desmond Okewood, of the Secret Service, learns from a dying beachcomber of a hidden treasure.
With the assistance of a millionaire, he sets out for Cock Island, in the Pacific. To his astonishment he discovers that the Man with the Clubfoot, whom he had regarded as dead, has anticipated him. It is obvious to Okewood that his old enemy is also in search of the hidden gold, and there ensues a thrilling sequence of adventures, in which the millionaire's pretty daughter takes a prominent part.
Okewood has the cipher, and the Man with the Clubfoot determines to secure it, for without that cipher it is impossible to discover the hiding-place of the treasure; but there is something that the Man with the Clubfoot does not know, whereas Okewood does. - Summary by Original Gutenberg text

A mystery still on 2nd listen

I heard more of the subtle lines by listening again. There is interesting speculation about the role of German gun runners and how they operated. The Island was still mysterious and full of secret caves, partially sculpted idols and thick brush. The heros and heroine courageous and purposefully searching for treasure. The evil ones managed to retain just enough civilized manners to not immediately kill our hero. The search for treasure probably symbolizes what many of us experience. The reader is excellent.
Blasphemy

Could have been a great story but I feel there should be a warning for the worst language, blasphemy and profanity. I have my settings on my phone to warn against it but this story came through without said warning so I cut it off because I don’t like hearing Gods Name used as a cuss word. I wish authors would use creative language like GA Henty, Tolkien and CS Lewis who don’t need to stoop to foul language to make their point. Too bad V.Williams took the 8th grade potty room route instead of using language as an art. Gifted by God with a talent then turns around and curses the Giver.

Fantastic read gain from Mark, I liked the first book "Clubfoot" (spoiler ahead) but this one not so much cause the MC used everyone to get what he needs, and feigned ignorance when he was literally risking other's lives... only being sympthetic towards the girl cause she is beautiful. totally different from the patriotic and family MC in the first book... thanks again Mark.

Other than the schoolboy titters at the name, this is another fine story and the sequel to The Man With The Club Foot. I found the original a stronger tale but this is a very good story nonetheless. Plenty of 100 year old stereotypes and the like. Bravery and derring-do! Well worth a listen. Excellent reader

I enjoyed the original Clubfoot and found myself wondering how the author would go from WWI Germany to a Pacific island treasure story. He did it well! It has romance, intrigue, suspense and a hint of the Sabitini adventure novel.
A great story told in the refined language of a time past.

a worthy follow-up - but sorry to say it's extremely racist at times, especially in the first chapters
