Casey, Crime Photographer

Music to Die By

NBC (1948)

Music to Die By is one of those Casey scripts that starts well but the ending suffers from some sloppy direction and an implausible solution to the crime. In a ranking of Casey episodes, it has to be near the bottom. This is one of the episodes where you listen just because you love hearing the cast and the way they work together.

In this episode, Howard Clinton is madly in love with a young lady who lives in the apartment above him. When Betty is found dead, Howard is discovered unconscious beside her. Casey responds to the murder report and initially suspects Howard's wife, but soon learns that jealousy among the apartment's residents may have played a role in the crime.

As the story unfolds, Casey pieces together the clues, revealing a conspiracy involving a life insurance policy and a murder-suicide setup. The episode showcases the intricate dynamics of relationships and the lengths people will go to for love and money.
