Vox Pop

Vultee Aircraft Plant, Downey, California

English · Radio, History

Vox Pop was a radio interview program that brought its microphone to people in workplaces and communities, inviting ordinary Americans to speak about their lives, jobs, and opinions. This recording is identified with the Vultee Aircraft plant in Downey, California, placing the program in an industrial setting during wartime.

The show’s appeal comes from its on-the-spot conversations: rather than relying on a fictional plot, it lets listeners hear people respond in their own words. The workplace setting offers a glimpse of the people behind aircraft production and the everyday concerns surrounding their work.

With its informal, human-centered approach, Vox Pop turns a public interview into a snapshot of a particular place and moment, preserving the voices and atmosphere of a community through radio.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
