Chase and Sanborn Program
Fort Ord Broadcast
von
The Chase and Sanborn Program was a popular American radio variety show sponsored by Chase & Sanborn coffee. Its best-known version featured comedian Edgar Bergen and his wooden dummy Charlie McCarthy, whose sharp-tongued banter made the pair a central attraction.
The program mixed comedy with music and guest appearances, bringing together Bergen’s ventriloquism, Charlie’s wisecracks, and performances by other entertainers. The result was a lively variety format rather than a single continuous story, with conversation and comic exchanges alongside musical interludes.
Listeners can expect polished network entertainment shaped by the contrast between Bergen’s genial manner and Charlie’s mischievous personality. The Fort Ord broadcast offers a glimpse of the program presented in a military setting, while retaining the familiar blend of comedy and variety.
