One Night Stand

Woody Herman at the Hotel Pennsylvania: Good, Good, Good

English · Music, Radio

One Night Stand presents a performance by Woody Herman at the Hotel Pennsylvania, identified as “Good, Good, Good.” The program offers a snapshot of a live big-band appearance, with Herman and his orchestra at the center.

Listeners can expect the sound and energy of a dance-band performance rather than a narrated story: ensemble playing, instrumental color, and the momentum of a bandstand set. The Hotel Pennsylvania setting gives the recording the feel of music made for an audience in a public venue.

Herman’s performance is a chance to hear a leading bandleader and clarinetist in the swing-era big-band tradition. The appeal lies in the orchestra’s collective sound and the immediacy of a live radio broadcast.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
