CBS Radio Workshop

Brave New World, Part 1 of 2

CBS Radio Workshop was an experimental anthology series that brought literary works, original drama, and other imaginative material to radio. Rather than following a single continuing cast of characters, the program used the possibilities of sound to create a different world or dramatic situation from one broadcast to the next.

This installment presents the first part of a two-part radio adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. The story’s dystopian vision of a society organized around engineered conformity and pleasure gives the broadcast a thoughtful, unsettling subject. As a radio drama, it invites listeners to follow the adaptation through dialogue, performance, and sound rather than narration alone.

The series is known for its ambitious approach to radio storytelling, treating the medium as a place for literary adaptation and formal experimentation. This opening installment begins a serialized encounter with Huxley’s imagined future, balancing the intimacy of spoken performance with the scale of a society transformed by technology and social control.
