Jane Merrick is a wealthy, elderly, difficult invalid woman who is preparing for her approaching death. In her youth, she inherited her money and estate from her fiancé, Thomas Bradley, who died before their wedding took place. With no children of her own, she calls for her three teenaged nieces to visit her, so she can decide who will inherit her estate. They are Louise Merrick, Elizabeth De Graf, and Patsy Doyle, children of Jane's younger brother and sisters. Each of the three cousins is a different type. (Summary by Wikipedia) (5 hr 18 min)

New twist from an author I thought I knew !!!

Just when I thought I had listened or read all the Baum books in print, I find I had just scratched the surface of his talents!

A LibriVox Listener
It's a good book and kind of funny. The reading is sometimes hard but sometimes brilliant. (:(;
Really fun story!...one unladylike word.

Just when I thought I knew what would happen, something ELSE happened! What a fun story. There is a little moral to the tale, but not tedious. A couple tough readers in the mix, but not impossible. Lastly, one character calls another a name that a proper lady should never use. For this reason I cannot give it 5 stars or recommend it to my young friends. Too bad!
classic girls book

I'm always surprised that this is Baum's work, with the nieces having their sly sides. The narration is mostly good, with perhaps one exception who stumbles a bit. It's not enough to recommend skipping the title.

Half star taken because of mispronounced words .I really. thought this would not be for me ,but I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will look for more.I loved how feisty the characters were.
