Gelesen von Cate Barratt

The Enchanted Typewriter is a collection of short stories by the American author John Kendrick Bangs, written in 1899 in the style that has become known as Bangsian fantasy. Bangs attributes many of the stories to the late (and invisible) James Boswell, who has become an editor for a newspaper in Hades, and who communicates with the author by means of an old typewriter. The fantasy stories in this book are part of the author's Hades series, named for the stories' setting. (Summary by Wikipedia) (2 hr 41 min)

This book was absolutely amazing, and an introduction to John Kendrick Bangs on my behalf. Each chapter is intriguing and leaves you wanting more. A very comical. and novel approach to the description of life after death and all its associated politics seen from the point of view, of an editor of an afterlife newspaper. The lady who reads this book has a very expressive. and interesting voice, so it is extremely easy to listen and imagine all the farcical scenarios.
Funny to the extreme

It is such a hilarious account that couldn't help but laugh heartily. One book I cpuld listen to again and still find it amusing. The narrator did it complete justice. Being said a collection of stories it is in fact a series all connected.
Good, silly, devilish fun

Enthusiastically and expertly read by Cate Barratt. I generally enjoy whimsy (Dave Barry, Alan Coren) but had never heard of John Kendrick Bangs - who probably features in the literary pedigree of both of the aforesaid humourists. Having enjoyed another reading by Cathy Barrett, I made a quick search to see what else she had read - which led me to this reading. [She also appears to have made readings of all of the Arsene Lupin canon and the Raffles canon, as well as everything written by J. K. Bangs.] Recommended for all Bangsians.
