Bonaventure, A Prose Pastoral of Acadian Louisiana
George Washington Cable
Lu par Jacquerie

This is a gentle, delightful story of life and love on the bayoux of Acadian Louisiana during the latter half of the 19th century. Bonaventure is a Creole raised among the Acadians. He loves learning, and through his calling as a teacher, and his own unique force of character, comes to have a lasting effect on the people around him.
A word of warning: This story has occasional references to Jews and African Americans that the modern mind finds offensive. They are retained here in the interest of preserving the original text. (Summary by Christine Dufour) (9 hr 54 min)

Beautiful Story of Louisiana Acadians

Scott in Sandy Eggo
This is a fascinating novel of historical fiction that is beautifully written, by an author that should be more well known and appreciated considering the literary talent expressed. G. W. Cable was a great personal friend of Mark Twain who considered him a genius. The story is extremely well read by Jacquerie. She does an amazing job in presenting the dialogues of the various people involved in the story. Thanks so much for bringing this wonderful novel to light, your readings are greatly appreciated.
Colorful writing.

Really splendid writing! The mysterious and romantic Acadian folks will not be soon forgotten. The reader was, as usual, exceptional. Thanks LibriVox.
